What I'm working on next
it's time for the next seasons chapter
In 2020, you never would have told me how different things would be. That all seems like centuries ago but that fall I co-founded a company.
John had just turned one and was majorly into toddlerdom. What transpired was a whirlwind of literal sweat, blood, tears + a lot of luck. A transit company we used said that they stumbled upon a journalist who was looking for a postpartum chef, nutritionist and doula who created postpartum meals. I couldn’t believe it, that was me. Next thing I knew, the article was out in the NY Times. As soon as I read it, I burst into tears. Wow, this was going to work. So I kept going.
Motherhood + Business are hard things on their own, but done together, even harder than I ever could have imagined.
I was the only mom on the team, I lost sleep, I had miscarriages, I was working very very hard. In 2022, I had JP. The chef who I lined up to take over once he was born, had quit. It was one of the most difficult moments of my life - in the thick of it all - being only 1 day postpartum. It honestly is so indicative of the struggles mothers face every day. But that didn’t stop me, I brought him to the kitchen, breastfed him in the basement and changed him on the bathroom shelf.
Mothers can do anything — so I kept going.
Featured in publications I always dreamed about. (BonAppetit, NY Times again w/JP! & so many more fulfilling moments like meeting Misty Copeland and enjoyed lunch with Chelsea Clinton!!!). As the business grew, many things changed and juggling ‘it all’ was near to impossible. I felt conflicted about supporting mothers but not being able to support my own family. Although I was proud of what I built, I wanted to create a truer story of women’s health — the good, the bad and the scary.
Fast forward to today, I have my own daughter. Who I hope one day, will be a mother.
But with over a decade of experience in supporting women in fertility, pregnancy and postpartum I realized — they seek advice and need an unlearning of decades of food culture. Whether it’s fad diets, wellness toxicity and the like. I want to turn those concepts on its head and start at the foundation like I always yearned for — with nutrition focused products for our kids. I want my boys to learn from our garden, eat seasonal foods, play with the nutritious dirt, be more ‘analog’. Ultimately, I want my own daughter to be able to have her own babies without worry of her own fertility. To use food as medicine and teach the future generations this rich wealth of knowledge.
The company has been acquired. I successfully helped build something that can live on and I hope will continue to help people. Follow along to see what I’m building next, it’s going to be a good one.
